Collegiate Fishing Championship Change

The Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship moves to May 28-29.
March 13, 2009

Alexandria, VA - In a move that will better coordinate schedules with the academic year, the 2009 BoatUS National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship moves from the fall time frame and will now take place May 28 - 29 at Lake Lewisville, TX. Television coverage of the event also changes, moving to the Versus cable network and there are new fall 2009 air dates.

Starting with just 41 teams from 24 schools in 2006, over 100 teams from more than 60 schools are expected to compete this year, and the Championship has grown to include regional tournaments across the country. Registration for teams is currently open and there is no entry fee for qualifying student athletes who will compete for thousands in scholarship money.

Today, over 200 colleges now have Association of Collegiate Anglers sanctioned teams, which is required for entry.

BoatUS Angler Director Mike Pellerin said, “This tournament remains focused on the students. Winners can be anyone, freshmen or seniors, male or female. They’ll do their fishing in boats in all types of condition, from the heavily used to the brand new. Some students will trailer their boats half way across the country to the event. It truly boils down to who has the best talent and can consistently catch the big ones,” he added.
